Extracurricular Programs
Casa & Elementary
Manor Montessori offers extracurricular programs that enrich the educational experience, allowing students to develop new skills and explore interests beyond the classroom. Elementary students also receive specialized instruction in music, art, and gym, taught by expert teachers who visit the school.
Physical Education
Casa and Toddler students enjoy 1.5 hours of supervised outdoor play each day, giving them plenty of time for movement, exploration, and social interaction.
In our Elementary program, students participate in weekly gym classes led by our instructor, where they engage in fun exercises and games designed to build balance, strength, and confidence. The program also includes health education, fostering lifelong habits of physical well-being.
Nature Education
Children have a natural curiosity about the world around them, which includes all the living things around us.
Toddlers engage in planting, harvesting, and tending to our gardens, learning about nature while also practicing flower arranging and caring for classroom plants.
Casa students explore nature through gardening—planting seeds, raking leaves, and observing seasonal changes. Their annual farm trip deepens their understanding of food origins, and they bring items back for group exploration and cooking.
In Elementary, the Botany curriculum breaks down plant structures with hands-on experiments and activities. Monthly field trips and park visits in fall and spring further enrich their learning through real-world discovery.
Music
At Manor Montessori, we recognize music as a vital part of cultural experience.
Toddlers have the opportunity to listen to and explore Orff instruments in the classroom, fostering an early appreciation for music.
Casa students sing daily during group gatherings and explore different musical instruments.
Elementary students study composers from various cultures, past and present, while also learning to play the recorder and ukulele. Through this, they develop music-reading skills and creative expression.
All students build confidence and a love for performing, culminating in our annual Winter Concert.
Art
Art is introduced at the Toddler and Casa levels through open-ended creative exploration. Young children are encouraged to experiment with colors, textures, and materials, developing fine motor skills and self-expression through drawing, painting, and hands-on activities.
In Elementary, art becomes a structured exploration of concepts and techniques, guided by a specialized art teacher. Students study color theory, patterns, shading, texture, symmetry, and perspective, while learning to recognize basic shapes in everyday objects to enhance their own artwork.
They also explore art history, studying famous artists, their masterpieces, and various art styles. Creativity is encouraged through diverse mediums, including painting, clay, outdoor sketching, and school workshops. An annual field trip to a local art gallery further enriches their artistic experience.
Field Trips
At Manor Montessori, toddlers enjoy an annual field trip to a local farm with parents, where they learn about farm life.
Casa students go on a fall outdoor excursion each year, alongside special guest visits from organizations like the TSO, Fire Department, Police, and Humane Society.
In Elementary, field trips bring the curriculum to life, with visits to places like the Harbourfront Centre, Young People’s Theatre, Kortright Centre, Ontario Science Centre, ROM, and Pioneer Village throughout the school year.
Clubs
Manor offers dynamic after school clubs each term for our Casa and Elementary students. These clubs provide opportunities for our students to grow outside of academics and to deepen their friendships. Our clubs are diverse: dancing, yoga, art, running, chess, Pawsitively Pets, woodworking and more.
Swimming
Elementary students participate in a swim program at the nearby Holland Bloorview pool, just a few blocks away. This program teaches essential life skills, fosters friendships, and builds confidence in the water. It’s a fun, valuable experience that promotes teamwork and physical development in a safe, supportive environment.
Skating / Skiing
Most winters, we offer a skating program at a local rink or a skiing program at Earl Bales for our Elementary students. These outdoor activities help students develop their skating or skiing skills while enjoying quality time outdoors with their classmates.
